Rebecca Chase-Williams sworn in as Brookhaven mayor

BROOKHAVEN, GA (WXIA) -- Brookhaven's new mayor was sworn in Tuesday night by Judge Mike Jacobs. Their new mayor may have a name familiar to some who have followed news over the years.

Mayor Rebecca Chase-Williams takes over the reins from J. Max Davis, who, in a letter earlier this month, said he was steppign down from the post to "pursue another opportunity in public service to our community."

Chase-Williams is married to Dick Williams, known as host of WAGA-TV's long-running political talk show, "The Georgia Gang," but that's not where many people will recognize her from. As Rebecca Chase, the new mayor first graced our screens here at 11Alive as a political reporter in the 1970s, before joining ABC News as an award-winning journalist for more than 20 years.

2 charged in Brookhaven prostitution investigation

BROOKHAVEN, Ga. -- Two people were arrested during a prostitution investigation in Brookhaven last week.

An undercover police officer visited Himalayan Salt Therapy in the 2800 block of Buford Highway on May 4. When he arrived, he was reportedly solicited for sexual services by 35-year-old Maria Favela. Favela was arrested and charged with prostitution.

Police executed a search warrant on the property, which revealed evidence consistent with a place of prostitution. Brookhaven Police Officer Carlos Nino said the business was also not equipped to provide the professional massage or salt therapy services it advertised.

The owner, 34-year-old Mateo Martinez Hernandez, was arrested and charged with keeping a place of prostitution.

Favela and Martinez Hernandez were taken to the DeKalb County Jail.
