New restaurant donates bikes to police department | Community Spirit
BROOKHAVEN, Ga. -- When SMASH Kitchen & Bar opened in the new city of Brookhaven last week, it decided to honor the town by giving back.
Restaurant representatives donated $1,000 and two BMW bicycles to the Brookhaven Police Department during the restaurant's grand opening celebration.
"It is an honor for our police department to be the recipient of such generosity from a new community member," Brookhaven Police Chief Gary Yandura said in a statement.

The $1,000 donation was raised during a soft opening fundraiser for SMASH. The two bicycles were donated by restaurant owner Tom Catherall; they are both official 1996 Atlanta Olympic commemorative bikes.
"We are grateful to SMASH for helping to make Brookhaven a safer place," Brookhaven Mayor J. Max Davis said. "I am also very pleased to see high quality businesses like SMASH contributing to economic development in Brookhaven."
SMASH Kitchen & Bar is owned by We're Here to Serve, which also operates Noche and Shucks. The new restaurant is located inside the Town Brookhaven complex.
