Crews battle massive fire at Brookhaven apartments | News
BROOKHAVEN, Ga. -- Several families were left looking for homes after a massive fire at a Brookhaven apartment complex on Friday.
Flames broke out at the Marq at Brookhaven, located at 50 Lincoln Court off of Buford Highway Friday morning.
Footage from SkyTracker11 showed one building nearly fully engulfed. According to Capt. Eric Jackson, there are no reported injuries. At least 24 units were damaged by smoke, fire, and water.
Firefighters said they were able to contain the flames.
Greta Beasley said she at work when she got the call about the fire at her apartment complex.
“I was like, let me get home so I can see what’s going on," Beasley said.
The roof collapsed on several units.
Ambulance crews were on-site, but thankfully they weren’t needed.
Firefighters say all the residents were able to get out safely.
“We were able to put firefighters far in advance of the fire and have them push water into the attic areas, where fire typically gets away from us, and push water into those areas and essentially stop it," said DeKalb Fire Rescue Captain Eric Jackson.
Jackson said the design of the building also played into everyone’s favor.
“We did have the aid of a couple firewalls which helped keep the fire from advancing," Jackson said.
Beasley is trying to remain positive, thankful that she has renter’s insurance to replace her belongings.
“There’s nothing you can do, as long as everyone is out, there’s no sense in being upset and everything," Beasley said.
The exact number of people that were impacted by this fire is not yet known. The American Red Cross is assisting those displaced.
