ATLANTA – MARKET, housed in the lobby of the W-Buckhead is known as one of Atlanta most “simple, elegant and contemporary” restaurants. The kitchen, which is under the direction of Chef de Cuisine Chef David Gross, maintains the consistency and reputation of concept leader and Executive Chef Jean-Geroge Vongerichten.

Gross boats tons of experience at many leading Atlanta restaurants, like BluePointe, Blue Ridge Grill, Bones and Pricci. He graduated from The Culinary Institute of America and began his career as a Sous Chef at the Ritz-Carlton in Atlanta.

Recently, Chef Gross introduced their Market Lunch Box Concept. They wanted to create a multi-course lunch geared toward business people having lunch meetings, diners who are on the run or those who want a five-star meal for an affordable price.

MARKET rotates their menu every season, in order to keep their selections fresh and seasonal. The restaurant tries to locally source as much produce and protein, as possible, which adds to their contemporary feel.

The restaurants décor is a simple as their menu selections; they don’t offer “gaudy” or complex dishes. Most of their dishes are a combination of complementary flavors and simple concepts; making this a very neat and cosmopolitan dining experience.

MARKET is open on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day for dinner and is offering a New Years Eve Tasting Menu. The NYE menu includes: Chilled Oysters and Caviar, Truffle Toast, a pasta selection, Foie Gras, Surf and Turf and a dessert trio for $75; they’ll also be hosting a New Years Brunch, however, details for that event are not readily available.

Every Tuesday, the Where U Live team chooses a Metro Atlanta restaurant and with the restaurant's help, shows you how you can sample the menu without spending too much.

Gross chose to feature the Market Lunch Box meal for diners looking for a meal in $20. This meal costs $14 and it allows you to build a meal by choosing any two (2) plates from their list of offerings. Chef Gross chose the Slowly Cooked Salmon which is served with Sautéed Spinach and Potatoes, atop a passion fruit sauce and black olive oil reduction. He chooses to pair the salmon with a house salad, which was constructed with local baby greens, enoki mushrooms, tomatoes and radishes; Chef Gross stressed that “everything in this salad is local”.

He also thinks a great pair for the MARKET Lunch Box is the Roasted Organic Chicken with Mustard Sauce and a mixture of herbs. The chicken breast is locally sourced. Gross thinks the Butternut Squash soup with pumpkin seeds pairs well with the chicken breast.

MARKET is known for their House Made Sodas, which is freshly squeezed and pureed, daily. The restaurant offers three varieties: Fresh Ginger Ale, Pineapple Mint and the Sparkling Thyme Lemonade. The homemade sodas are $4 each.

For power lunches, he suggests the Red or White house wine to complete your meal. MARKET’s red house wine selection is a Merlot and the white is a Chardonnay. Each glass will cost you about $6.
